Syllabus

Numbers

For the TEAS exam, it's important to be able to work with numbers. In this lesson, you'll review basic arithmetic. You will review and complete problems that contain fractions, decimals, and percentages. Additionally, you'll review how to order rational numbers. Having a grasp on working with numbers will prepare you for more difficult mathematical concepts in future lessons.

Algebra

In this lesson, you'll learn about working with equations that contain one or more variables, with one or more steps. You'll also review estimation and rounding, including when it may be appropriate to estimate or round numbers. This lesson also contains a review of Roman Numerals. All of these skills are important, and they are ones you will use regularly in the healthcare profession.

Ratios, Proportions, and Inequalities

This lesson reviews strategies to solve problems involving ratios, proportions, and equations that contain inequalities. The lesson also provides you with practice problems that relate content to the real world. During the TEAS exam, you will be asked to solve problems such as the ones presented in this lesson.

Measurement and Data

Here, you will shift the focus from algebra to interpretation of charts, tables, and graphs. You will also look at the relationship between two or more variables. These are important skills when reading scientific literature. On the TEAS exam, you will need to interpret data presented to you in the form of a graph, table, or chart. You may also be given information and asked to decide which type of chart, table, or graph would be most appropriate.

Geometry and Converting Between Systems of Measurement

In this lesson, you will continue with measurement in the form of geometry. You will review the formulas for calculating area and perimeter of various geometric shapes. Next, you will look at the standard, metric, household, and apothecary systems of measurement. Then, you will learn to convert from one system of measurement to another. These are important skills for any science-based classes you may take as a healthcare student.

Anatomy and Physiology: Part 1

This lesson begins the science portion of the TEAS Prep 2 course. There are three parts to the anatomy and physiology section (Lessons 6-8). This lesson starts with a general overview of standard anatomic positioning and naming. It then moves into the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory, cardiac, and integumentary systems.

Anatomy and Physiology: Part 2

In this lesson, you will cover the anatomy and physiology of the neurological, endocrine, immune, and skeletal systems. The course covers a few of the major disease processes associated with each system.

Anatomy and Physiology: Part 3

The final lesson of the anatomy and physiology section covers the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and the reproductive systems. The TEAS exam will ask you many questions about the structure and function of the human body. You may need to spend some extra time reviewing the anatomy and physiology lessons.

Scientific Reasoning

Here, you will explore scientific reasoning, the scientific process, measurement, and using logic and evidence to make conclusions. This section uses your critical reading and thinking skills to be able to interpret scientific data presented. It is important that when reading a scientific article, the reader validates through their own logic the conclusions the author is making. You will also review the relationships between data and how studies are designed. On the TEAS exam, you will need to be able to determine the difference between dependent and independent variables.

Biology

This lesson covers the basics of macromolecules, genes, chromosomes, and heredity. It also includes a review of the structure and function of DNA and how traits are passed on from one generation to the next. The lesson concludes with a review of how to create and evaluate a Punnett square, a tool to predict heredity.

Chemistry

This lesson covers the basics of substances and their properties, atomic structure, states of matter, and chemical reactions. This content is important to help you understand pharmacology and how medications work in the body.

Preparing for the TEAS Exam

In this lesson, you will learn what to expect on exam day. You will also learn about ways to manage your time so that you are adequately preparing for the exam. And you will learn how to manage your stress on test day. Helpful tips on being professional and successful when you start clinical are also provided. Finally, you will have the chance to test the skills you learned by completing questions like the ones you will see on the TEAS exam. This lesson will be essential to increase your chance of scoring a passing mark on the TEAS exam.
